How To Use The Calculator
Enter Your Scores Frame by Frame
In each frame, you will see two input boxes (and a third for the 10th frame). Simply type in the number of pins you knocked down. For example, if you knock down 7 pins on your first roll and 2 on your second, enter β7β and β2.β
Recording a Strike
If you knock down all 10 pins on the first roll, type βXβ or β10β in the first input box. The calculator will automatically move to the next frame, as you do not need a second roll.
Recording a Spare
If you do not get a strike but knock down the remaining pins on the second roll, the calculator will show a β/β in the second box. This tells you that you scored a spare.
Real-Time Updates
The calculator updates the total score automatically as you fill in each roll. You can watch your score grow as you enter your numbers.
Resetting The Score
If you need to start over, click the βReset Scoreβ button. This clears all the inputs and resets your total score to zero.
How Bowling Score Is Calculated
Game Structure
A standard game of bowling is divided into 10 frames. In each of the first nine frames, you get up to two rolls to knock down 10 pins. The 10th frame may allow up to three rolls if you score a strike or spare.
Strikes
A strike is when you knock down all 10 pins on your first roll. This earns you a bonus: you add the pins from your next two rolls to the frame where you scored the strike.
Spares
A spare is when you knock down all the pins using both rolls in a frame. In this case, you receive a bonus of the pins knocked down on your next roll.
Open Frame
If you do not knock down all 10 pins in a frame, it is called an open frame. The score for that frame is simply the total number of pins knocked down in the two rolls.
The 10th Frame
The final frame works a bit differently. If you score a strike or a spare in the 10th frame, you are granted extra rolls to add bonus points. However, the bonus rules cap the maximum additional points you can score in this frame.
